I had recently sat down to write a gratitude letter to someone. Although the occurrence to which my gratitude is related has taken place more than a year and a half ago, I find that this sense of gratitude has an interesting characteristic. As we all know, unlike a material possession, once given – ‘gratitude’ does not leave the giver. In fact, it can continue to grow with time. When I tune into my body and heart and to that ever-lasting, ever-refining sense of gratitude, I find that I am feeling something very familiar: I am in essence feeling… something not very different from Reiki!

Anyone who ‘lives Reiki’ would know the sensation of free- flowing, loving, harmonious energy that runs through the body and vibrates through every cell. Like Reiki, I find that ‘gratitude’ flows in my body with a sense of nurturing love and harmony, healing my soul as it elevates the energetic vibration of every cell. Like Reiki, its flow and vitality does not deplete with time, and when deeply experienced - it seems to almost have a life of its own! Likewise, at times it comes uncalled, just washes through me without apparent reason.

I guess this can be said about other feeling states – like unconditional love, happiness, bliss, peace, harmony… Like Reiki, they flow through our body/heart/mind, they heal and restore our sense of inner wholeness, and the sense of being one with ‘All-That-Is’ – one with life. Even emotions that do not contribute to our wellbeing such as anger, sadness, grief… they too have the ability, wen tapped into, to fill up the cells of our bodies and almost become entities on their own. Even though they carry a very different potential, as they deplete us of our own life-energy and rob us of our connection with life-source, feeding our sense of separation rather than the sense of oneness.

…And so, I was sitting to write my letter of gratitude. And I had found myself submerging in this ‘Gratitude treatment’ – or was it a Reiki treatment?  And so, when I had finished writing my letter I ended in the same way that I always end a Reiki session, with gratitude for the healing gift of Reiki. Or, shall I say this time - I ended it with Reiki of gratitude?
