Tasseography is a method that interprets patterns in coffee-ground, tea, or wine sediments to gather information about or for the person for which the interpretation is made. This method belongs to the ‘family’ of Spiritual Readings. There are all sorts of tools which the ‘reader’ can use to connect with higher wisdom and inner source of intuition. Some other tools that people use for this purpose include Tarot-Cards, Stones, Bones, and Palm-Reading, to name a few. I found in my experience that the tool being used does not matter as much as the ability of the ‘reader’ to connect with his or her intuitive abilities and a higher source of wisdom. My personal preference is Coffee and Tea-Leaf Readings, in which I look at the coffee or tea sediments left on the cup of the person for which the reading is done.
I first came across coffee-reading through a friend of mine who picked up the skill from her grandmother. It became part of our friendship-culture with a few other friends who used to meet up and experiment with various types of intuitive readings and energy work. At some point of the evening we would have our empty cups of coffee all lined up for my friend to look at and tell us things…
After a while, my friend started encouraging me to give it a try. “You can do it”, she said. “You have what it takes”. I wasn’t so sure about that… but my friend was persistent, and one night I finally decided to give it a try. I picked up my emptied coffee-cup and held it in my hands. And I stared. I wasn’t thinking of any particular question, just curious about what would unfold. And unfold it did. At first I could not make anything out of the marks that were left by the tiny coffee grains on the inside lining of the cup. But a moment later I saw, very clearly, an image of myself being immersed in a hug with a man. I looked closely, or rather, with more intuitive attention, and found that this man was someone I did not see for two years for he was traveling in India at the time, someone I was deeply in love with two years earlier and for whom I still had deep feelings and hopes. “Well”, I thought. “Of course I would imagine that this man would be him. That’s what I would have wanted. But why am I shown this now”? I looked again, and saw that the tiny image that represented me, although in the arms of the man of her dreams, was not happy. I understood that even if the future would bring such event to me as to be in this man’s arms again, that I could not be happy in a relationship with him. In itself that reading was telling and for me it was already worth the try. Perhaps, I thought, with practice, one day I could achieve a level of coffee-reading which people could actually benefit from. Little did I know of what was about to happen…
The next day, my phone rang. On the other end the voice of the man from the previous night’s coffee reading said, “Hi Ora, I’m here and I would love to see you”. I could not have been more thankful for the previous night’s ‘warning’. I did end up meeting with that man, but instead of having my hopes high for a possible future together I had used that opportunity to bring our relationship – and mostly my feelings towards him – to a healthy closure.
Since then, I had performed many successful readings to both myself and others. Often they are very accurate and can reveal insights into situations. I never claim for these readings to be future telling. To a large extent the future is in our hands, subject to choices we make, and depends on a variety of things. I can never know in advance what a reading will bring to the table. What I do know is that it always reveals what needs to be known at the time of reading. Furthermore, there are no guaranties that any information will be brought forth at a reading. I had a few readings in which I had no access to any information at all. I always trust that what we need to know, and what we are ready to handle, will reveal itself to us. The information that comes forth during coffee readings, as in other intuitive readings, is better being followed not on its own and not blindly, but as a form of guidance, a revealing piece of information to synthesize with whatever information the person already has of both the situation they are inquiring about and their inner thoughts, feelings, attitudes and hopes, with the latter often becoming the real issue of focus.
